Application cases of labeling machines in food packaging

Improve packaging efficiency and consistency

In food packaging factories, labeling machines are widely used for labeling various packaging materials. For example, for bagged foods such as potato chips and biscuits, and boxed foods like chocolate and cakes, labeling machines can quickly and accurately attach product information labels to packaging bags or boxes. Compared with manual labeling, labeling machines ensure that the labels are applied in the same position, avoid errors caused by human factors, and improve the consistency of the packaging results.

Ensure food safety and traceability

1. Application of Smart Printing Labeling Machines: In a large food production company in Huizhou, the company uses smart printing labeling machines to identify information for its various packaged food products. The labels include important information such as the production date, shelf life, ingredient list, and barcode. By using smart printing labeling machines, companies can ensure that every label is clear and accurate, avoid food safety problems caused by labeling errors, and enhance consumers' trust in their products.

2.Anti-Counterfeiting Labels and Traceability Codes: Another food company uses mart printing and labeling machines to print anti-counterfeiting labels and traceability codes. These labels not only verify the authenticity of the product through QR code scanning but also record the production batch and circulation links of the product. In the event of a food safety incident, the company was able to quickly locate the problematic batch through the traceability code and conduct an effective recall, demonstrating the important role of smart printing and labeling machines in food safety management.

Optimize logistics management and distribution efficiency

A company focusing on fresh food distribution uses smart printing and labeling machines to print unique logistics labels for each delivery package. The label contains detailed logistics information and tracking codes to ensure that each package can be accurately tracked during the distribution process. In this way, the company has greatly improved logistics efficiency, reduced error rates, and ensured the safety and freshness of the fresh food.

Adapt to Diverse Packaging Needs
Modern smart labeling machines, such as smart printing and labeling machines, can perform diversified label printing according to the different forms and materials of food packaging. Whether it is bottled, bagged, or boxed food, efficient and accurate label printing can be achieved to meet the labeling needs of different products.

Real-Time Data Collection and Monitoring
Modern smart labeling machines are also equipped with advanced control systems that enable real-time data collection and monitoring. With this data, companies can stay informed about the operation of the production line, identify and solve problems in a timely manner, and optimize the production process.

Two case studies of industrial labels

1.Bakery Labels: Challenges

The first visit we made was to a bakery where the bases for tarts, biscuits, ready-to-eat pastries, and layer cakes are made for restaurants, supermarkets, small bakeries, and many foreign companies. The bakery wanted to increase and simplify its production capacity in order to achieve the expected growth. Together, we examined improvements in the labeling process. There are two production lines with different labeling processes. The first line uses an automatic printer labeler for labeling, while the second line uses manual labeling.

In addition to increasing production capacity, the bakery also has to deal with changing regulations in the food industry. Depending on the product, destination, and regulations, the label format changes. The labeling system of the future must be able to reflect multiple label formats on the boxes. The current labeling system cannot do this, so a solution is needed. On the second line, the bakery wants to switch to automatic printer labeling to increase production capacity.

Our Solution for Optimizing Bakery Labels
In the end, the choice fell on a printer labeler. Line 2 installed a bracket and a conveyor belt with a printer labeler, while line 1 replaced the old labeler, reused the bracket, and modified the conveyor belt. To accommodate the diversity of label formats, different labels were used that could be quickly changed when the label format needed to change. This solution fits the intended use in a bakery!

2.Labeling for wholesale fruit and vegetables

The second visit was to a wholesale fruit and vegetable business, which was filled with peppers and cherry tomatoes, among other items. They wanted to automate the labeling of the peppers. The situation was sketched out, and various ideas were discussed.

In the end, it wasn't just one packaging line but different print-and-label solutions on multiple lines. This plant occupies a large space with different packaging lines for fruits and vegetables. Several packaging lines run between the towering stacks of boxes on pallets. The first line starts behind a mountain of bell peppers. The operator places two bell peppers in a bag and puts it on the conveyor. The bag sealer is automatically loaded, and the peppers pass under our P54C label printer and dispenser for labeling.

After the experiment, the peppers passed under the P54C blow-print labeler and were quickly labeled. That's why a BEAJET P54C blow-and-print labeler is used, as it can label 60 bags of hot peppers every minute. The force and precision with which the labels are blown onto the peppers is impressive, as it does not damage the peppers or move the packaging.

Different Print-and-Apply Solutions for Different Packaging Lines
On the second packaging line, cherry tomatoes are packaged with two print-and-apply labelers for top and bottom labeling. The print-and-apply module is connected to the tablet's printing software, allowing for specific customization to apply the labels to the packages exactly at the right time.

On another line, two peppers are placed on a belt and wrapped in foil. The peppers are weighed by a weigh-and-apply labeling system from BEAJET. When the peppers exceed a certain weight, a label is blown onto them.

The bagged peppers are then placed on a turntable, and an employee separates the labeled peppers from the unlabeled ones in boxes. An innovative print-and-apply system adds capacity to this packaging line.

Increasing Capacity and Quality with Food Label Print-and-Apply Labelers
We believe in cost-effective, automated coding and labeling solutions that add value and quality to production and logistics processes. I saw this demonstrated through the bakery and the fruit and vegetable wholesaler. The professional printing and labeling machine solutions for the food industry can increase production capacity and reduce costs!
