Fiber laser inkjet printers use fiber op-doped optical fibers to develop fiber amplifiers, which have brought revolutionary changes to the field of light wave technology. Since any optical amplifier can form a laser machine with a proper feedback mechanism, fiber laser machines can be developed on the basis of fiber amplifiers.
At present, the fiber lasers developed mainly use rare earth element-doped fibers as the gain medium. Due to the very thin fiber core in fiber lasers, high power density is easily formed in the fiber under the action of pump light, resulting in the "particle number reversal" of the laser energy level of the laser working substance. Therefore, when a positive feedback loop (forming a resonator) is appropriately added, a laser oscillation can be formed. In addition, due to the wide fluorescence spectrum of the fiber matrix, fiber lasers can generally be made tunable and are very suitable for WDM system applications.
We can classify fiber lasers from different angles, for example, according to the structure of the resonator of the fiber laser, it can be divided into two categories: Fabry-Perot cavity and circumferential cavity. It can also be divided into single wavelength and multi-wavelength according to the number of output wavelengths. For the characteristics of different types of fiber lasers, the following points should be considered: (1) the threshold should be as low as possible; (2) The linearity of the output power and the pumping optical power should be good; (3) output polarization state; (4) pattern structure; (5) energy conversion efficiency; (6) Laser working wavelength, etc.
Compared with the semiconductor laser machine, the advantages of the fiber laser machine are mainly reflected in the following: the fiber laser is a waveguide structure, which can be pumped strongly, with high gain, high conversion efficiency, low threshold, good output beam quality, narrow line width, simple structure, high reliability, etc., and is easy to realize the coupling with optical fiber.
